What course do I need to get my NRSWA card?

All unit combinations are available so whether you are looking to complete the NRSWA Operative or NRSWA Supervisor or the NRSWA Re Assessment training we will have an option for you.

NRSWA Operative Course

This course includes all the NRSWA operative units (if you need hot-lay, please contact us to make sure your chosen centre is able to complete this unit on your course) and is aimed at those who will be undertaking work on the road that includes excavating and reinstating the road and pathways.

NRSWA Supervisor Course

This course includes all the NRSWA supervisor units (the hot-lay unit is always included in supervisor training) and is aimed at those who will be supervising operatives. You can complete both the operative course and the supervisor course to be qualified to do both. However, on site you are either an operative or a supervisor – you can’t supervise yourself.

NRSWA Card Reassessments

You need to renew your qualifications every 5 years if you are going to continue to work on the highway. You cannot work on the highways without an in-date card. However, you are able to take a reassessment course up to 5 years after the expiry date on your card without having to retake the entire course again.

I don’t excavate the highway

Some people only require unit O1 or S1 for their job. This is the Signing, Lighting and Guarding unit and can be taken on its own over a 2-day course. This course is aimed at those that set out temporary roadwork layouts for the public. This unit was previously called unit 2 and chapter 8. There is even an individual reassessment course for this unit.

      Hi Ade,
Thank you for getting in touch with us. NRSWA courses are for those that work on the highways, if you are looking for a career in construction then you might be better off looking at a CITB course and earning a green CSCS Labourer’s Card. I have forwarded your details to the training team who will get in contact with you – as a few more details about your goals will help us find the right course for you.
      Thanks,
      Amy
